ANERA, the leading American NGO focused on the Middle East, provides vital aid to hospitals, clinics and the people living in the Gaza Strip

A shipment of more than $10 million in pharmaceuticals and medicals supplies has reached the Gaza Strip through ANERA's in-kind program, providing much needed relief to families suffering due to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The shipment includes antibiotics, vitamins, anti-diarrheal medicine, pain relievers, ophthalmic preparations, as well as sutures and iodine solution.

"These medicines and supplies provide vital aid to hospitals, clinics and the people of Gaza who are in a desperate situation," said Tom Neu, ANERA's Middle East representative. "ANERA's shipment is one of the few examples of medical aid being delivered to the Gaza Strip during this difficult period. We continue to do everything we can within our power to overcome obstacles so we can help alleviate hardships the people of Gaza face every day."

Since the Intifada, ANERA's medical and relief program has grown steadily. During the past year, ANERA distributed in-kind donations valued in the millions to charitable clinics and hospitals in the West Bank and Gaza. ANERA's partnership with AmeriCares accounts for the largest share of these donations, including the most recent shipment to Gaza which is the highest value shipment to date. ANERA is grateful to AmeriCares, our largest partner in the medical in-kind program, for providing this most generous shipment.

Other recent in-kind donations to Palestinian health care providers during the last two months have included a container of wheelchairs to centers for the disabled in Bethlehem and Jerusalem; separate containers of medicines and supplies to Hebron and Nablus; an air shipment of flu medicine to Ramallah.

"The lack of funding to support the health care system is jeopardizing the health and well being of thousands of people," according to Peter Gubser, ANERA's president. "Hospitals and clinics have reduced services because medicines for treatment and surgery are no longer available. Complicating matters even more, thousands of households in the West Bank and Gaza are plunging into poverty because the government cannot pay salaries. Through our partners like AmeriCare, as well as our partners in the region and support from our donors, ANERA is proud to make these humanitarian projects possible."
